In the 2000s, the precariat and precarious movements faced criticism from both the Right and the Left, both in the media and in academic discussions. Recurrently, we encounter the claim that the precariat is lacking two crucial things that are closely interrelated. First, it is lacking a voice, articulate and clear, that conveys an understandable, univocal message or agenda. In addition, we are told, it lacks a solid collective identity. It is dispersed and, as a result, it cannot launch effective collective mobilization and practice.
