Neural basis of the two-phase resource allocation model of visual working memory and its application

Bidragets beskrivning

We recently proposed a model for resource allocation in human visual working memory (VWM), which emphasizes the role of attention in working memory performance. Our model is able to account for different (sometimes conflicting) results of VWM in the literature. The aim of the research described here is to provide empirical evidence of the attention mechanisms involved in VWM. Recordings of brain activity as well as behavioral measures will be used. In addition, a cognitive training paradigm will be developed, which will focus on the attention mechanisms discovered, and the effect of the training on working memory will be examined. The project will provide a new theoretical basis for the understanding of VWM. More importantly, the project may open new possibilities for cognitive training, which can help people who have low memory capacity.
