Abstrakt

The EU has set a target of being climate neutral by 2050 with an intermediate target of cutting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55% compared to 1990 levels by 2030. Bioenergy plays an important role in the climate neutrality targets of the EU. The aim of this study is investigating the possibilities of bioenergy development in the EU. This study provides analysis of several factors inhibiting overall bioenergy development throughout the EU. The status of bioenergy implementation varies greatly across the EU. Thus, the study also compares bioenergy development between Southern and Western EU countries with Northern and Eastern EU countries. The aim of this study is to look at features and barriers to the development of bioenergy as well as consider prospects for the future of bioenergy in the EU. The results show that, in general, bioenergy use in the EU can be expected to continue to grow, although there are many issues that need to be addressed by policy and society.
