Building Antifragile Arctic Systems through the Resources Nexus Approach

Bidragets beskrivning

NAFAS develops an antifragile governance approach for the Finnish Arctic. Instead of focusing only on coping with change or recovering from disturbances, the project studies how Arctic communities, authorities and resource users can learn from disruptions and make better decisions in the future. NAFAS focuses on Lake Inari and the Kemijoki basin, where water, energy, land use, ecosystems and local livelihoods are closely connected. These areas show how changes in snow, ice, river flows, energy production, tourism, fisheries, reindeer herding and land use can create wider impacts across society and nature. The project combines environmental monitoring, Earth Observation, modelling, strategic foresight and decision-support tools with Sámi and local knowledge. Living Labs provide practical arenas for co-developing solutions with communities, authorities, actors from the energy and land-use sectors, and other stakeholders.
