Transnational and Ecological Perspectives on Nordic Soundtracks is a four-year research project that will shed new light on Nordic soundtrack practices with a dual focus on transnationalism and ecology. The project covers a wide range of screen practices and responds to the growing global interest in Nordic screen practices by illuminating the role of soundtracks in producing and challenging cultural meanings. Questions of social change and cultural memory are woven into the research design since both transnationalism and ecology imply a diachronic perspective in which the present and possible futures are seen through the lens of the past. The project asks how do Nordic soundtracks mediate, modulate, and amplify ideas about transnationalism and ecology? The project combines cultural analysis and close readings of multimodal phenomena with some quantitative analysis to provide richly interconnected accounts of the studied phenomena.
