Cultures of Control? Lived Religion and Lay Challenges to Normativity in Later Medieval Europe
Bidragets beskrivning
CULTCTRL is the first in-depth comparative analysis of late medieval canonization and inquisition processes; source types of crucial importance for the study of medieval lived religion. We focus on tensions between normative demands of centralising ecclesiastical authority and newly emerging forms of lay devotion in late medieval Europe (1300–1500). CULTCTRL takes an innovative methodological step in this field by utilizing digital methods: systematic pattern querying and computer-assisted semantic text modelling (CASTEMO). These methods enable a combination of qualitative and quantitative research leading to ground-breaking advances in the field of lived religion by allowing the integration of micro and macro levels.
