Multi-channel Brain Stimulation and Imaging of Muscle Activity in Studies of Hand Movement Control
Bidragets beskrivning
Motor impairments have high social and economic impacts on patients and the society. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is a non-invasive tool for diagnosis and treatment of several neurological disorders. With TMS applied on the motor cortex and simultaneous recording of electromyography one can quantify the integrity of motor pathways. In this thesis work, we will study connections between motor cortical networks and upper limb muscles by using multi-channel brain stimulation and imaging muscle activity. High-density surface electromyography (HDsEMG) will be used to map muscle group coactivations and improve the spatiotemporal characteristics of adjacent muscle responses. The results will help to understand the complex activation patterns of neural pathways involved in the control of hand movements.
