Improving adoption pathways of precision forestry technologies to preserve biodiversity: an analysis of private forests in Southern Finland
Bidragets beskrivning
Despite the growing worldwide recognition of precision forestry Technologies (PFT) and their essential role in conserving natural resources, increasing productivity, and global sustainability, there is still a paucity of empirical evidence regarding the adoption and implementation of these technologies by forest owners. Finland can be an excellent example of reversing the biodiversity loss in forests by implementing PFT in forests and identifying the factors influencing the adoption of these technologies by forest owners. However, the much-discussed question is what factors are involved in adopting PFT by forest owners that encourage or hinder them. This research aims to identify and examine the quantitative and qualitative factors influencing the adoption of PFT by private forest owners in Finland. The survey site is generally forests located in Southern Finland, but other forested areas in Finland will also be explored if necessary. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods will be applied to carry out the research. Preliminary data will be collected through separate focused group discussions with private forest owners, with different levels of PFT adoption, semi-structured interviews with key informants, and various field observations. Secondary data will be obtained from scientific journals, published and unpublished documents, and books. Different methods will be used to analyze qualitative and quantitative data, including, but not limited to, content analysis, coding, descriptive statistics, and inferential statistics. This study, for the first time, examines the issue of conservation and enhancement of biodiversity using PFT in forestry and helps policymakers to facilitate and provide better conditions for the adoption of these technologies.
