Empowering learners' meta-skills in the AI age – new tool for teachers

Bidragets beskrivning

The project aims to develop a toolkit for teachers to guide students' meta-skills in collaborative learning. Meta-skills are the abilities to learn, adapt, and regulate cognition, emotions, and motivation in a group setting, yet they are challenging to identify and assess. The theory is called Socially Shared Regulation in Learning (SSRL). The toolkit, developed and tested in the Region of Oulu, will assist teachers in recognizing when and how to intervene, thereby facilitating the development of meta-skills in their students. Moreover, it will enable teachers to evaluate not only learning outcomes, but also the learning processes themselves. Students equipped with strong meta-skills will be able to thrive in the era of AI. The resulting toolkit will be freely available, ensuring it can benefit a wide range of educators. Anticipated impacts of the project include influencing national and international policies in the short and long terms, as well as offering business opportunities.
