Innovative Therapeutics and Drug Discovery Tools to Battle Against Antimicrobial Resistant Biofilms in Urinary Tract Infections
Bidragets beskrivning
This project aims to tackle the global issue of urinary tract infections (UTIs), especially those caused by antibiotic-resistant uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC). The focus is on utilizing new antimicrobial agents to fight UPEC biofilms and intracellular bacterial communities that cause persistent and recurrent UTIs. The project builds on previous findings from our project in which we found a series of compounds with antibiofilm effects. Our aim is to further characterize these compounds and advance them towards clinical use, particularly for multidrug-resistant infections. The project targets two main applications: catheter-associated UTIs and intracellular bacterial communities responsible for recurrent UTIs, and also includes the development of a medium-throughput in vitro model for drug screening against these bacterial communities. In summary, this project represents a significant step towards innovative solutions for combating antimicrobial resistance in UTIs.
