MITOCHONDRIAL SIGNALING IN HUMAN STEM CELL FATE AND FUNCTION

Bidragets beskrivning

Human pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) play a crucial role in in vitro modeling of human diseases, drug discovery, and regeneration strategies. To fully unlock their potential, it is crucial to have a better understanding of the cellular processes vital for stem cell function, with mitochondria emerging as key player. While the bioenergetic roles of mitochondria during stem cell differentiation is recognized, their role as a signaling hub influencing cell fate remains poorly understood. This project aims to uncover new signaling pathways or molecules orchestrated by mitochondria and involved in the differentiation of human PSCs into motor neurons. The results of this project have the potential to transform discussions within the fields of stem cell mitochondria and metabolism. Notably, the insights gained from this project might pave the way for identifying clinical targets for pharmaceutical or genetic interventions, particularly in the context of mitochondrial diseases and neuropathies.
