Dynamics and Combustion of Ultra-High Pressure Hydrogen Jets
Bidragets beskrivning
Internal combustion engines (ICEs) stand as the most prevalent energy converters, serving as the primary propulsion system for vehicles, construction and agricultural machinery, and marine vessels. Remarkably, the combustion of fossil fuels within ICEs accounts for 23% of the world's CO2 emissions. Within this context, replacing the fossil fuels with hydrogen (H2) would gain dramatic benefits. However, most investigation on H2 ICEs focus on premixed-charge spark ignition (SI) or diesel-H2 dual-fuel technologies, which suffer from the issues, such as low power density, limited operating range, intake flashbacks, high knock and pre-ignition tendency, hence limited efficiency. Within this framework, the Ultra-H2 concept aims to address those challenges with ultra-high pressure direct injection and compression ignition . Several advanced optical techniques will be employed to obtain high-quality images to gain an insight into the non-reactive and reactive H2 jets.
