Promoting Healthy Lifestyle for Spousal Family Caregivers: Family FINGER

Bidragets beskrivning

There is an increasing responsibility of family caregivers of older adults in an ageing society. However, these caregivers have an increased risk of stress, unhealthy lifestyles, depression, and cognitive decline due to various dementia-related risk factors. The successful FINGER study in Finland has shown that cognitive functions can be maintained with a multidomain lifestyle intervention. In this collaborative project of UEF and THL, we will adapt the previously developed FINGER intervention model and evaluate the effect of the new Family FINGER model, which is developed among caregivers. We will use qualitative and quantitative data to investigate the contributing and hindering factors for caregivers to adopt health-promoting lifestyles and the effectiveness of the intervention on caregivers' mental health, quality of life, and cognitive functioning. We will evaluate the cost-effectiveness of the intervention to provide an effective model to reduce society's healthcare costs.
