NORDCAP Nordic Children and Adults Born Preterm - testing hypotheses based on evolutionary theory in a four-country register study of 11 million people

Bidragets beskrivning

The overarching aim of our project is to understand lifetime health and well-being and risk and protective factors and their mechanisms in children and adults born preterm. To achieve this, we link data from Medical Birth Registers of Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark with social and healthcare registers of each country and develop data secure methods to analyse data from four countries together. We hypothesise that the child and adult outcomes of preterm birth can in part be explained by lifelong metabolic and behavioural adjustments, which have developed during evolution adjust the metabolism and behaviour of an organism conditions that are likely prevail during life course. The comprehensive register data of over 11 million people are an excellent setting to test this hypothesis.
