Primordial prevention and early development of cardiometabolic diseases – The longitudinal infancy-onset STRIP study
Bidragets beskrivning
The STRIP study is unique worldwide; no other study has started dietary intervention in infancy and continued it for 20 years, and simultaneously collected data with repeated measurements on a vast number of cardiometabolic risk factors and pre-clinical markers. The study was launched in 1990-1992 when 1116 7-month-old children and their families were enrolled. Half of the families received individualised dietary and lifestyle counselling at least twice a year whereas the rest of the families comprised the control group. Results of the STRIP study have affected national and international dietary guidelines. The first follow-up study of the cohort begun in 2015 continuing the collection of the unique data bank and also introducing novel aspects associated with cardiometabolic health. This study will provide unique knowledge on the effects of 20-year dietary and lifestyle intervention, and early life determinants of pre-clinical vascular markers, cognitive function and gut microbiota.
