Stability and Control of Hyperbolic Partial Differential Equations

Bidragets beskrivning

The research project focuses on analysis and control of mathematical models used in describing real-world dynamical behaviours, especially vibrations and flexibility. Models involving “partial differential equations” are encountered for example in the study of robots with flexible parts, large-scale engineering structures, and vibrations in tall buildings. The main purpose of the project is to introduce new theoretical results and tools for analysing the long-time behaviour of the energy of physical systems and developing new methods for control of such systems. The control methods developed in the project emphasise the practically important property of “robustness” which allows the control design to be tolerant to uncertainties in the models and changes in the physical systems. The research belongs to the fields of mathematical control theory and functional analysis.
