Discovery of Novel Biomarkers to Predict and Prevent Abnormalities in Glucose Metabolism since Childhood
Bidragets beskrivning
We aim to discover novel blood biomarkers and lifestyle factors to predict impaired glucose metabolism from childhood to adulthood and reveal new biological mechanisms for the effects of lifestyle factors on glucose metabolism. The project is based on data from the PANIC study, which is a unique long-term lifestyle intervention and follow-up study in a general population of children followed up until adulthood and using state-of-the-art methods to measure all key outcome variables. The project will provide insight into pathophysiological mechanisms of impaired glucose metabolism and evidence on mechanisms underlying the effects of lifestyle factors on glucose metabolism. The research will improve the identification of individuals at increased risk of T2D, target lifestyle interventions and other measures to prevent T2D to those who most likely benefit, give more specific lifestyle recommendations and tailor lifestyle interventions to the personal characteristics of each individual.
