Single-cell and spatial studies on the etiology of hip joint osteoarthritis.
Bidragets beskrivning
Hip joint osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disorder that leads to thousands of joint replacements in Finland annually, thus posing a notable medical challenge. In addition to deteriorated health and degreased life quality, OA causes great financial losses that are estimated to increase in manifold in the next decades due to aging populations. The etiology of the disorder is unclear, but the newest technologies enable the studies of its background mechanisms at a new resolution. Utilizing these methods, our study will clarify the cell and tissue specific disease mechanisms. We can produce new knowledge to improve the general understanding of the development of OA and characterization of patient groups based on divergent disease mechanisms. Our results could aid the development of better targeted diagnostic and treatment options. Our project has potential to present remarkable advancements in medical science and to provide essential foundations for future studies of OA.
