Computational activity screening of enzymes
Bidragets beskrivning
Enzymes, chemically active proteins, are deeply involved in our everyday life. Laundry, food making, pharmaceutical, textile industries are actively using enzymes. Companies are instantly looking for more efficient enzymes. That will make the goods and services cheaper for everybody and the industrial processes more ecological. At the University of Jyväskylä I will develop a set of computational techniques, which will make it possible to predict the enzyme activity from its physical and chemical properties, known as force fields. In contrast to existing workflows, I won't use any prior knowledge about activities of similar enzymes. That might severely reduce the costs for enzyme developments, since no massive testing and production of inefficient enzymes is needed. Also, that might help to design novel enzymes, which carry functions that are not present among natural proteins.
