GLO-LO Video Corpus Part 4 (Large Block of Flats)
Beskrivning
GLO-LO Video Corpus Part 4 is part of a broader Video Corpus of talk and interaction collected as part of the research project Globalizing construction work and local language practices. The project investigates local language practices at construction sites in Finland and analyses how construction workers coordinate their tasks by using linguistic and bodily resources. The research method used is conversation analysis. The results of the project provide new insights into the role of language in the organization of physical and manual work.
GLO-LO Video Corpus Part 4 includes video recordings collected at a large construction site where a block of flats is being built. The video recordings focus on the interactions between site foremen and construction workers. In these interactions, foremen give instructions on the next steps of the work, and the participants negotiate how to solve problems encountered in the work. The primary languages of the interactions are Finnish and English while also Estonian is used occasionally.
The video recordings were collected in September, October and November 2022, using one to two hand-held cameras. One of the hand-held cameras was connected to the microphones worn by the foremen. The researcher holding this camera followed the foremen and captured their interactions with the workers on the site.
The work interactions were filmed on 6 different days, and altogether the corpus includes approximately 15 hours of video recordings. Ethnographic fieldnotes complement the recordings.
