Turning the corner: Societal and equity impacts of urban street space distribution

Akronym

CO-SPACES

Bidragets beskrivning

The distribution of urban street space is one of the most visible expressions of the priority given to different transport modes. Street space distribution is linked to significant societal impacts notably via the types of mobility it encourages and its environmental, health, and liveability-related impacts. There are also major equity implications linked to urban street space distribution. The CO-SPACES project generates open data on how urban street space is current distributed in Finland's city centres as well as novel methodologies for assessing the aggregate societal impacts of street space distribution and the equity implications for different user groups. The information on societal and equity impacts will be integrated into urban space governance processes through co-creation activities with diverse stakeholders. Ultimately, the CO-SPACES project contributes to rethinking street space use in urban centres and supports the creation of more just, liveable, and healthy cities.
