Humanity faces wicked challenges, such as environmental crises. These challenges are perpetuated by inherent limitations in human metacognitions which lead to poor decision-making and action. Metacognitive development requires approaches that go beyond informational education and nudging towards experience-based, holistic and multimodal approaches that are unique affordances of novel VR technologies. Therefore, CLIMETA investigates how such VR technologies may improve meta-engagement capabilities in contexts of complex and contested information, self-efficacy feelings, and social dynamics through holistic embodied, embedded, enactive, and extended experiences. CLIMETA consolidates theory and empirical findings, generating novel theoretical and practical contributions. By establishing a ground breaking cross-disciplinary area of research on metaverse technologies for metacognition, which paves the way for transformative solutions to global challenges.
