Violence and Silencing in the Digital Age - Solutions Towards Inclusive Democracy (DIVIDE)

Bidragets beskrivning

DIVIDE tackles violence and silencing that threaten democracy and well-being. It examines how violence, harassment, and hate speech affect individuals, communities, ideologies, and culture. The continuum and connections of different forms of violence will be explored through a multidisciplinary approach. The consortium of the Universities of Tampere (social policy, psychology and youth studies) and Eastern Finland (cultural and gender studies) in collaboration with Statistics Finland makes use of extensive register and survey data, as well as social media, writing competitions, interviews, and ethnographic data. By combining qualitative and quantitative data and methodologies, the research design of DIVIDE will facilitate the gathering of knowledge which can make a significant scientific and practical impact. The produced knowledge and proposed solutions are essential in preventing and tackling different forms of violence and strengthening democracy, inclusion, and trust in society.
