Effect of a Tailored Exercise and Dietary Lifestyle Intervention on Reducing Atrial Fibrillation Burden, Cardiac and Body Fat Mass in Overweight and Obese Patients. The MOVE-AF Randomized Clinical Trial

Bidragets beskrivning

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common cardiac arrhythmia and is associated with mortality and reduced quality of life. Obesity is a modifiable risk factor for AF, and overweight and obese patients often experience more frequent symptoms. Although evidence suggests that lifestyle modification can reduce AF symptoms, there is a lack of conclusive randomized controlled trials (RCTs) demonstrating whether a tailored exercise and dietary intervention can reduce AF burden, symptom severity, and cardiac fat accumulation. Given the limited RCT evidence on the role of exercise and healthy diet in AF management, there is a clear need to evaluate the effectiveness of lifestyle interventions among overweight and obese AF patients (body mass index = 27 kg/m²). To address this gap, we will conduct a multi-center, parallel-group RCT in which 158 patients will be randomized 1:1 to receive a 12-month tailored exercise and dietary lifestyle intervention in addition to usual care, or usual care alone.
