The Population of Exoplanets around Active Suns (PEAS) Hosts star magnetic activity, detectability, space weather and habitability

Bidragets beskrivning

The habitability of small exoplanets is a hot topic in modern astronomy. Together with atmospheric properties, stellar radiation fluxes determine the surface-temperatures of rocky planets. Stellar activity also plays a role but its effects on habitability remain ill-undestood. We propose to model the stellar magnetic dynamos to assess how stellar wind, capable of eroding exoplanet atmospheres, depends on stellar properties. Extending the models to other stellar types by accounting for several types of observations of the stellar active surfaces, we aim to characterise the effect of astellar activity and eruptions on exoplanet habitability. Understanding this activity also enables us to improve the exoplanet detections. We will thus deliver a comprehensive catalog of candidate habitable exoplanets in the Solar neighbourhood. This catalog will contain the best targets for search of life in our cosmic corner.
