Towards quantitative thermoacoustic tomography
Bidragets beskrivning
Medical imaging techniques are important tools for diagnosis, monitoring, and improving patient outcomes but may suffer from limitations such as high cost, long imaging times and the exposure to ionising radiation. Moreover, these methods are often unsuitable for quantitative imaging, where detailed information or differentiation between pathologies is required. In this project, quantitative thermoacoustic tomography (QTAT) is developed as a novel medical imaging technique enabling low-cost, rapid, and non-ionising quantitative imaging of major pathologies such as strokes and cancers. To realise this goal, computational methods for modelling and image reconstruction in QTAT are developed to bridge the gap between current theoretical research and practical applications. The research will be carried out at the University of Eastern Finland, department of Technical Physics.
