Towards Personalized Treatment of Celiac Disease through Omics - CELIOMICS

Bidragets beskrivning

The main goal of the CELIOMICS project is to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying celiac disease and to identify new, more precise molecular medical targets that prevent intestinal damage and enable personalized treatment for patients with different genetic risk levels. We use omics techniques, such as transcriptomics and epigenomics, to study, among other things, the effects of a transglutaminase 2 inhibitor drug on differentiation disorders of intestinal epithelial cells. We also investigate how viral infections predispose individuals to celiac disease. The scientific significance of our research is substantial, as it provides a deep understanding of the pathogenesis of celiac disease and enables the development of new, personalized treatments. Socially, our research can improve the quality of life for celiac patients, especially those who have symptoms and intestinal damage despite a gluten-free diet. This can reduce healthcare costs and improve patient well-being.
