??From Arctic to Tropics: Climate Change and the Evolving Landscape of Tick-Borne Diseases?

Bidragets beskrivning

The emergence of tick-borne diseases (TBDs) is driven by climate and environmental changes, posing significant challenges to human and animal health as well as global efforts to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. This project examines how climate change is reshaping TBD dynamics in two contrasting regions. As global temperatures rise, tick populations are expanding into new areas, increasing the risks of diseases such as tick-borne encephalitis (TBE) in the north and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) in the tropics. This project aims to aggregate TBE virus-positive tick data across the Nordic region and predict the current and future distribution of TBEV, identify emerging tick-borne pathogens in Kenya and model the distribution of CCHFV tick vectors. By integrating field data, predictive modeling, and stakeholder engagement, this research will provide critical insights into the distribution TBEV foci in the Nordic region and the burden of TBDs in Kenya.
