Lifecycle of stratiform clouds in the Finnish subarctic; 4D variability of cloud microphysics and turbulence - 4Dcloud
Bidragets beskrivning
Nowadays, there is robust evidence of faster warming rate in the Arctic compared to the global average. This phenomenon, called Arctic amplification, can be seen in both observations and climate models. Aerosols and clouds have an important role in Earth's radiative energy budget and its distribution, as they both absorb and reflect incoming energy back to space. This proposal aims to investigate at a fundamental level the dynamical, physical, and chemical parameters underlying the formation, maintenance, and fate of stratiform clouds in Finnish subarctic. This will be achieved by the simultaneous measurement of airborne platforms - unmanned aerial systems and tethered balloons system, surface in-situ and remote sensing measurements. The suggested project goal is to conduct long-term regular measurements and characterize aerosols and clouds in vertical column at high resolution. The acquired properties will provide all necessary input parameters for improvements of models.
