Prolonging Future Battery Lifetime with Pulse Charging (PULSE)

Bidragets beskrivning

The PULSE project aims at prolonging the lifetime, capacity and safety of next-generation batteries, including advanced lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries, and solid-state batteries, with novel pulse charging protocols. Specifically, it will investigate the effects of pulse charging protocols on the performance of batteries with various chemistries and under different working conditions, obtain comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the electrochemical processes and ageing mechanisms of batteries under pulse charging by using novel and integrated characterization and modelling methods, and based on which to design and systematically optimize pulse charging protocols toward performance improvement, including fast-charging. The research results will boost the efficiency of battery utilization and advance the development of more sustainable and safe batteries for future energy storage. The site of research is Aalto University.
