Understanding the dynamic Earth in East Antarctica with multitechnique geodetic measurements

Akronym

DynEAnt

Bidragets beskrivning

The goal of the DynEAnt project is to better understand the response of the East Antarctic lithosphere to changes in mass loading. The research methods of the project are modern terrestrial and space geodetic measurements. In the project, we will develop new lithosophere and load models utilizing long time series of geodetic measurements both at Finland's Aboa station and from Dronning Maud Land more widely. The project improves the accuracy of geodetic measurements in the area with the help of the new loading models we will develop. The project also includes two Antarctic expeditions, where we both continue our time series of geodetic measurements spanning more than three decades, and pilot new measurement methods. More precise geodetic observations will improve the modeling of earth's crustal movements and thus refine estimates of the mass changes of the East Antarctic ice sheet and their effect on sea level rise, as well as improve the reliability of reference frames globally.
