Cyclones and anticyclones in the Antarctic climate system

Akronym

CAAC

Bidragets beskrivning

The CAAC Project will study how cyclones and anticyclones have influenced and will influence the Antarctic climate system from 1979 to 2300. This research is divided into three main areas: 1. Understanding Cyclones and Anticyclones: The focus is on understanding the formation, development, movement, duration, and decay of cyclones and anticyclones in the Antarctic. 2. Effects on the Current Climate System: The effects of cyclones and anticyclones on sea ice and on the mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet are investigated. The work focuses on how these weather systems influence snow accumulation and surface melt on the ice sheet. 3. Future Predictions: Future changes in cyclones and anticyclones, as well as their effects on sea ice and the ice sheet, will be studied using advanced climate models. The research is being conducted with top international experts and utilizes novel methods and tools. CAAC contributes to two major international projects.
