Organic RADIcals as electroCHEMical and photoCHEMical energy materials (RADICHEM2)

Bidragets beskrivning

RADICHEM2 project aims at developing polyradicals for use as electrochemical and photochemical electrode materials in organic energy technology. This new class of organic semiconductors can be prepared from abundant and recyclable raw materials, while devices can be fabricated using solution-based methods with minimal use of energy making an overall favourable environmental impact. Our polyradical design strives to enhance electrical conductivity, charge storage capacity and speed of electrochemical charge/discharge reactions of organic semiconductors. Significant progress in these factors is needed so that organic energy technology can complement Li-ion batteries in commercially viable low-voltage applications such as portable, wearable and implantable electronics that are thin, flexible, lightweight and low-cost. These novel materials are developed at Aalto University, while device applications are studied together with our collaborators at Swansea University and in-house at Aalto.
