??Synthetic brain tissue microstructure with realistic micro- and macro-properties to characterize diffusion MRI
Bidragets beskrivning
Neurological disorders are a global public health burden, with expected increasing prevalence, demanding noninvasive monitoring for early diagnosis. Water diffusion underpins a remarkable sensitivity to subtle changes in tissue at the microscopic level mapped over a millimeter-sized diffusion MRI (dMRI) voxel. This project aims to effectively turn MRI into an in vivo microscopy that can quantify cellular-level properties of brain tissue far below its resolution. To identify the cellular features manifest in dMRI measurements, our recipe is to leverage AI breakthroughs and generate unlimited configurations of synthetic brain tissue microstructures to bridge 2–3 orders of magnitude differences in resolution. This research will be conducted at the A.I. Virtanen Institute at the University of Eastern Finland and involves collaboration with esteemed international partners, aiming for innovative solutions in computational neuroscience.
