Gender Performance-Confidence Paradox
Bidragets beskrivning
This project, the Gender Performance-Confidence Paradox (GPCP), investigates the gap between science performance and confidence among genders in education. Over the past decade, despite girls outperforming boys in science, their confidence in the subject is significantly lower, a trend particularly evident in Finland. This lack of confidence often deters girls from pursuing STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers. Meanwhile, boys tend to take more active and leadership roles during science group work, while girls remain less involved. Our study aims to investigate the relationship between GPCP and these gendered science learning experiences in schools, employing advanced machine learning and natural language processing techniques. By understanding these dynamics, we hope to contribute to more equitable education and a future where all students, regardless of gender, have equal opportunities to excel in STEM fields.
