Young carers in Finland: Life course transitions, family care chains and support for caring (YCaFin)

Bidragets beskrivning

This project analyses the situation of young carers in Finland. Young carers are defined here as adolescents and young adults aged 15–24 who provide care, support, help, and/or assistance to (a) family member(s) or kin on a regular basis. The project 1) develops an in-depth understanding of how young carers' caring role shapes their life course transitions during adolescence and emerging adulthood, 2) produces empirical knowledge regarding young carers' family care chains, and 3) analyses their formal and informal forms of support for caring. The data set consists of qualitative longitudinal participatory data from young carers. A total of 40 young carers will be recruited for this project. By taking a longitudinal approach, the project is able to address in depth how young carers' caregiving experiences are shaped in and through time, as well as the consequences of being a carer for young carers themselves.
