Developing lighter, stronger, greener and less costly natural fibre reinforced polymer composites
Bidragets beskrivning
The demand for new renewable and recyclable materials has been growing rapidly due to increasing environmental awareness and sustainability concerns. Several factors contribute to this rising demand: environmental awareness, regulatory pressures, circular economy principles, resource limitations, waste reduction initiatives, and the push for clean energy. Natural fibre-reinforced polymer composites (NFRPCs) have gained attention as eco-friendly alternatives to conventional synthetic fibre composites, although they come with their own set of challenges and issues. In the GreenComp project, we aim to revolutionise the field by developing a closed loop for fully eco-friendly composites. This involves using flax natural fibres as reinforcement and recyclable bio-based resin as the matrix. Our goal is to create lightweight, renewable, and recyclable composites that are mechanically robust. The optimised structures will feature bio-inspired layups to enhance their mechanical performance.
