Building elements as distributed wireless infrastructure: Facilitating indoor service coverage and non-intrusive sensing for smart buildings
Bidragets beskrivning
We propose sixth-generation (6G) wireless cellular infrastructure to i) achieve indoor ultra-high-speed data connectivity and ii) monitor collective human activities via non-intrusive, radio-based passive sensing. This 6G infrastructure seamlessly integrates antennas and relevant electronics into building elements, such as walls and frames of windows and doors, forming distributed multi-band antenna systems serving indoor mobile users. The antenna systems also function as monostatic radar for passive human activity sensing. To enhance their application and demonstrate the feasibility of the new wireless infrastructure, we introduce 'Dynamic Occupancy', a novel concept to represent occupants' collective presence without any individual identity information. It enhances interaction modeling of buildings and their users to minimize overall energy consumption for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning and lighting, while fostering a healthy, comfortable environment for building users.
