Social deficits in depression – fMRI study on interacting mice
Bidragets beskrivning
This project explores the effects of major depressive disorder (MDD) on social interactions in mice. Utilizing a novel functional magnetic resonance method, we aim to understand the neuronal network dynamics during social interactions, providing insights into potential treatment targets. The study employs imaging technique called zero-echo time fMRI to image brain activity of two interacting mice simultaneously. Method allows, for the first time, simultaneous imaging of two mice in artefact-free fashion. Mouse model of MDD will be used to embody social deficits. The research will be conducted at Biomedical Imaging Unit at A.I. Virtanen Institute in University of Eastern Finland using preclinical 9.4 and 11.7 Tesla magnets. The project aims to reveal new functional and structural neural network changes related to social deficits in depression. In addition, this project introduces innovative imaging tools for social interaction studies conducted with rodents.
