Pre- and Post-Traumatic Mental Impairment and Growth Over the Lifespan and Over Generations
Bidragets beskrivning
Globally, common traumatic experiences include war exposures, natural disasters, and family adversities. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 70% of the population undergoes at least one potentially traumatic event during their life, with most individuals facing multiple potentially traumatic events (poly-traumatization). Interestingly, of trauma-exposed individuals, only 6% are affected by posttraumatic stress disorder, while 50–70% report posttraumatic growth. Thus, individuals exhibit a wide diversity in their preparedness for and responses to similar traumatic events. Despite the link between trauma experiences and mental health is established, the existing evidence contains crucial gaps that this project addresses. This project explores trauma-related impairment/growth over trauma experiences as well as transmission of trauma experiences between generations.
