Biodiversity interventions for well-being - BIWE

Akronym

BIWE

Bidragets beskrivning

Biodiversity is essential for the health of both the planet and humans. In cities, land use reduces biodiversity, which undermines urban ecosystems, public well-being and increases immune-mediated disorders. BIWE will experimentally restore microbiological diversity in urban areas and study ecological and human well-being. The results will be integrated into public land use data. This will allow biodiversity enhancement and the simultaneous study of vulnerable groups of people (disabled people, children at risk of atopy or type 1 diabetes), also from an urban planning perspective. The social impact of the project is based on multidisciplinarity and broad interaction: BIWE combines environmental, medical, psychological and technical knowledge with the needs of sustainable greenspace and urban planning, for example by studying the social, ecological and wellbeing impacts of the Ministry of Education and Culture funded biodiversity intervention for daycare yards.
