Reconfigurable Spin-Wave Computing
Bidragets beskrivning
Electric currents in nanoelectronics cause excessive warm-up. This effect, which has accelerated the electricity usage by ICT devices, limits the clock speed of microprocessors to only a few GHz. Future telecommunication technologies require more energy-efficient operation at higher frequency and programmability. Magnonics, the research field studying collective excitations in magnets known as spin waves, enables promising analog and reconfigurable computing concepts. Because spin-wave frequencies can range from GHz to THz and their transport does not require an electric current to be passed through the magnetic material, energy-efficient operation for next-generation ICT can be accomplished. In this project, we will develop reconfigurable spin-wave computing devices using simple all-magnonic building blocks with on-chip ionic gates. The performance and energy usage of the devices will be validated and compared to other devices operating in the same frequency band.
