Water-driven transitions in coacervates (WATRAN)

Bidragets beskrivning

WATRAN targets via advanced high performance computing (HPC) approaches advanced performance sustainable materials. The research focuses on obtaining control over phase transitions associated with the coacervate phase of aqueous macromolecule solutions. The coacervate phase rises when a macromolecule solution spontaneously phase separates to a dilute polymer solution and polymer dense liquid droplets, the coacervates. This liquid coexistence phase is central to advanced functions of polymer materials as it allows diversified mechanical and chemical environments in the material. This allows advanced molecular confinement e.g., in pharmaceutical applications, selective molecular level sieving, and triggerable response in e.g., adhesives. At biotechnology side, coacervates are extremely promising as artificial cells and in generating systems with chemical feedback loops controlling assembly and aggregation.
