LS-HYDRO: From forest structure to hydrological function – merging dense Earth Observation data and process-models
Bidragets beskrivning
The LS-HYDRO consortium brings together cutting-edge science from terrestrial laser scanning and ecosystem modeling to reveal the so-far poorly understood link between dynamic structure and hydrological function of Boreal forests from individual tree scale to regional level. We propose that by combining dense laser scanning time series, high-resolution satellite data and advanced biophysical ecohydrologic models, we have a high potential to transform our understanding on how boreal forest structures regulate water dynamics in individual trees. Furthermore, we will study how this translates to variability of forest stand and regional hydrological cycle. We will develop novel tools and means to observe structural and phenological heterogeneity in Boreal forests and predict its impacts on hydrological cycle at unprecedented detail.
