The Hexapla of 1-2 Samuel

Bidragets beskrivning

The Hexapla (= “Six-folded”) was an ancient work that compared the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) with four to six of its Greek translations in parallel columns. This huge work was compiled by the church father Origen in the third century CE. Unfortunately, this masterpiece has been preserved in fragments only. The project will produce a new edition of the remaining fragments of the Hexapla of the Books of Samuel for the international Hexapla Institute. The research carried out in the project includes textual criticism of the Hebrew and Greek texts of the Books of Samuel and study of ancient translating. The resulting Hexapla edition will be an indispensable tool for all text-oriented study of the Books of Samuel, such as textual criticism and textual history, study of ancient translations, and early reception history.
