Metal atoms on functional nanoplatforms (Minos)
Bidragets beskrivning
The project “Metal atoms on functional nanoplatforms (Minos)” studies new nanostructures at the Accelerator laboratory at the University of Helsinki Physics department. The research is focused on developing a method called ultra-low energy ion implantation, that allows the modification of nanostructures within the accuracy of individual atoms. Because the properties of nanostructures can critically depend on individual atoms, new nanostructures can be developed towards desired properties in a controlled manner. The created structures and their properties are studied using electron microscopy, spectroscopy as well as atomistic simulations. The project focuses on creating nanomaterials that can be applied in the fields of optoelectronics and nanocatalysis. The research is done in international collaboration with research teams at the University of Vienna and at the University of Nottingham.
