Development of novel methods for creation of a new subject-specific view of Achilles tendon structure and loading in health and disease
Bidragets beskrivning
The Achilles tendon is an important tissue for movement, but human studies lack clinically relevant evidence on the relationship between tendon structure and function. The ACHILLES project will first develop a method to identify the three-dimensional structure of the human Achilles tendon and its three subtendons at the individual level. The development of computer modelling will progress from a realistic model of the tendon structure to a functional model using continuum beam element technology and finally using multibody dynamics during exercise. The new tools developed in this project will help to increase our understanding of the relationship between human Achilles tendon structure and function, both in basic and clinical research. This consortium project between University of Jyväskylä and LUT University will also produce a rehabilitation and training tool that takes into account individual anatomy.
