Early Indo-European lexical influences in Common Uralic and West Uralic
Bidragets beskrivning
The project "Early Indo-European lexical influences in Common Uralic and West Uralic" reassesses the early Indo-European loanwords in the Uralic (Finno-Ugric) languages and brings a new point of view to the research on the earliest language contacts of the linguistic ancestor of Finnish. The project, conducted in the University of Helsinki, presents new results on the early loanwords layers and contact-areas. The project will utilize the recent breakthrouhgs in Uralic and Indo-European historical-comparative linguistics to review and scrutinize the earlier suggested North-West Indo-European loanwords and other early Indo-European lexical loans that are not from Indo-Iranian or Balto-Slavic. The methods used will be similar as in my dissertation (Holopainen, Sampsa 2019: Indo-Iranian borrowings in Uralic: Critical overview of sound substitutions and distribution criterion). The results of the project will be published also in an electronic database that makes continous updates possible.
