Fast functional profiling of patient samples and genetic variants in hypercholesterolemia

Bidragets beskrivning

An elevated blood concentration of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) increases the risk for cardiovascular disease which is one of the most common causes for death worldwide. Individuals respond differently to LDL lowering medications. Currently, we do not understand how these different responses arise. Furthermore, we do not have assays with which a clinician can predict whether a patient will respond to a given therapy or not. It is the goal of this project to set up automated assays to perform a detailed characterization of patient samples with a fast turnaround time. This will make it possible to predict patient responses to lipid lowering therapies. Furthermore, the application of those assays in cell culture systems will address to which extend genetic factors influence blood LDL concentration and response to lipid lowering therapies.
