Solidarity in Practice - Young people's everyday communities as sources of recognition and spaces of preventive social work (SoliPro)

Bidragets beskrivning

The project investigates what solidarity means to young people and how it can be promoted in their everyday environments such as in schools, on the street, and online. The central idea is that because we live in diverse communities where we do not all share the same values and interests, the concept of solidarity needs to be redefined. Once we know what kind of solidarity we are after, we can find ways to enhance it among young people. Thus, the project aims to imagine a new kind of social work which holds strength-based preventive policy and practice in its core. We implement youth-centered research methods and aim to engage young people in the knowledge production. We use a digital platform for data collection and investigate youth's use of ‘fading' social media such as Instagram and Snapchat. In addition, social/youth workers participate in the study with young people and researchers to explore how we can build solidarity in local communities to advance quality of life for everyone.
